Chidambaram cautions retail investors
Mr P. Chidambaram
Our Bureau
New Delhi, Oct. 3 Even as the benchmark Sensex extended its gains and came close to the 18,000-mark on Wednesday, the Union Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, advised caution to retail investors looking to enter the market at this level.
“I doubt if retail investors are entering the market at this level. I would advise them caution. Apparently there is lot of interest from foreign institutional investors (in Indian shares). Why should we not welcome it? ” Mr Chidambaram told newspersons here.
The Finance Minister had also recently cautioned investors to do their “homework” before investing in the stock markets, which has seen extensive volatility in trading. He had suggested that retail investors could use the mutual fund route in case they cannot do their homework. Mr Chidambaram added that he had no advice for speculators.
