Tuticorin Port handles 10 mt in 6 months

Our Correspondent

Madurai, Oct. 4 Between April and September Tuticorin Port Trust (TPT) has handled 10.032 million tonnes. This is 17.98 per cent higher compared to the same period last year.

This has been achieved through handling more thermal coal, containerised cargo, finished fertilisers, timber logs and copper concentrates, excepting petroleum products. Proactive measures have been taken such as issue of trade notice for handling cargo at anchorage, concessions offered through MoUs entered into with major users, improved mechanised handling of timber logs and trade promotion meetings.

The Ministry of Shipping has set a target of 203.85 lakh tonnes for the current financial year. The port proposes to hold more trade promotion meetings and road shows to attract more cargo, said Mr A. Subbiah, Deputy Chairman, TPT, in a release to the press.
