TN Chamber will collect details of freight movement between Madurai, Karaikudi

Madurai, Oct. 4

The Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry will be collecting and forwarding details to the Southern Railway on the movement of commercial goods and industrial inputs, information about new industrial units, their requirements, finished products to be turned out by them, daily road use by lorries etc. to help facilitate the laying of a new broad gauge (BG) line between Madurai and Karaikudi.

In a release to the press here, Mr S. Rethinavelu, Chamber President, said that the chamber had been demanding a new BG line between Madurai and Karaikudi via Melur.

In pursuance of this demand, the Ministry has instructed the Southern Railway to undertake a engineering-cum-traffic survey for the purpose vis Kunnakudi, Pillaiyarpatti, Tiruppatur, Melur, Kottampatti and Vilangudi between Karaikudi and Madurai.

In turn, the Southern Railway has requested the chamber to collect and forward the necessary details, the release said..
