Industry Associations Logistics - Infrastructure KCCI seeks improvement in road conditions Our Bureau Mangalore, Oct. 4 The Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has urged the Governments, both Central and State, to improve the condition of roads in Dakshina Kannada district. Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, Mr K. Narasimha Prabhu, President of KCCI, said that KCCI will lay importance on improving the condition of national highway nos. 17 and 48 and roads within Mangalore city. All efforts will be made to bring pressure on authorities concerned to improve the condition of all roads in the region. The chamber will coordinate with the elected representatives by organising meetings with them, he said. The KCCI, in associations with other organisations, had staged a protest march in the city last year to express its dissatisfaction over the condition of the roads. “As a last resort we may also think of holding protest marches in the region. However, we hope that these roads will be motorable by the end of March 2008,” he said. Though the people of coastal Karnataka contributed immensely for the establishment of Konkan Railway network, the intended benefits are not reaching them. The Railways should resume the services of Mangalore-Mumbai Janshatabdi Express, he said. The KCCI will coordinate with elected representatives to open Mangalore-Hassan railway line for passenger traffic. CRUISE SERVICEMr Prabhu said that the KCCI will seek a cruise service on Mangalore-Goa-Mumbai-Lakshadweep sector and more container feeder vessels to West Asia. Mr Shekhara Pujari, Honorary Secretary of KCCI, said that the new cruise terminal at New Mangalore Port is likely to be inaugurated soon. The air-conditioned cruise passenger terminal will have all the facilities to cater to the needs of cruise passengers coming to Mangalore, he said. Mr Prabhu said that the chamber will be on a membership development drive during the year. “We want to achieve at least 15 per cent growth in membership development during the year,” he said. The KCCI has also planned various programmes during the year which include CII Vision 2025 seminar, seminar on banking, national-level IT exhibition and a medical insurance seminar, he said.
