IT co offers ayurveda package for employees

Our Bureau

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 9 It is an incentive of a novel kind. And the accent is on enhancing the fitness of the employees, marking a shift from the age-old practice of giving monetary incentives.

Probably for the first time in the country, Accentia Technologies Ltd, based in Technopark here, is offering ayurvedic rejuvenation and therapy packages as incentive to its employees for exceptional on-the-job performance.

The company has reached an understanding with Kandamkulathy Ayurveda Super Speciality Hospital to provide the package as part of its human resources development scheme.

A formal memorandum of understanding for the purpose will be signed here on October 11.

Significant move

The move by a BPO company is seen as a significant one in view of several studies by experts that have revealed that employees in the IT sector are prone to chronic ailments such as prolapsed disc, cervical spondylosis and ophthalmic problems.

According to Mr Pradeep Viswambharan, Chief Executive Officer, Accentia Technologies, “monetary income and incentives are already quite high in the IT sector and some more money would not significantly add to efficiency.”

“Instead of offering further financial benefits, we thought it fit to join hands with the practitioners of our age-old system of ayurveda to ensure better health of our colleagues so as to help them enhance their on-the-job performance,” Mr Viswambaran said.
