Bharti launches 8Mbps service

Bangalore, Oct. 11

Bharti Airtel has launched 8 Mbps broadband service. With this, the telecom major’s network will also be Internet Protocol Television ready, said Mr Atul Bindal President, Bharti Airtel Ltd (Broadband and Telephone Services). The company is also testing a p ilot to integrate WiMax technology to make the high speed product scalable. Announcing the national launch of the service here on Wednesday, Mr Bindal said Bharti’s customers now had the choice of access ranging from 256 Kbps to 4 Mbps, and soon it would be 8 Mbps that would allow browsing on multiple windows at a faster speed and with clarity. Initially the service will be available in Bangalore, Chennai, Pune, Kolkata, Delhi and the National Capital Region, Mumbai and Hyderabad. Eventually it will be rolled out in 50 cities, he said. Mr Bindal said the pricing of the product was being worked out but assured that it would not be expensive. —
