Hardware Dell developing simple IT products Our Bureau Bangalore, Oct. 11 Dell is moving away from its direct model path and is going on an IT simplification drive. “Direct is not a religion,” remarked Mr Paul Henri Ferrand, President - APAC South, Dell Asia Pacific. Dell’s new hybrid model will allow customers to buy its products through value-added resellers and will begin in India six months from now. “There are those customers who still prefer buying from their neighbourhood stores. We will offer this option to them,” he said. SIMPLE ITSimplifying IT is the company’s new slogan. Its Chief Technology Officer, Mr Kevin Kettler, introduced upcoming products that would remove complexity and drive innovation. Dell’s patented liquid-cooled heat sink for processors increases their clock speed. The firm will soon launch a range of its Latitude laptops that run on flash (solid state) drives instead of mechanical ones, that will speed up the time taken to boot up and also reduce the weight. Its Blu-ray optical drives are being offered as an option for storage in enterprises (a Blu-ray disc can hold 50GB of data, compared to a DVD’s 4.7GB), while its direct drive monitors will ship later this year. Products based on Storage Bridge Bay, which simplifies customisation of storage bought from the company, are being developed. The firm also launched an energy-efficient power adaptor for laptops. “We will focus on the government, SMB and consumer markets,” said Mr Rajan Anandan, Vice-President and General Manager, Dell India. The company has been primarily focussed on the corporate segment with a 35 per cent market share. More Stories on : Hardware | Market Shares
