Research & Development States - Karnataka Philips to showcase pre-clinical tool
‘The preclinical workflow is a breakthrough solution and is a powerful engine that will enable researchers to revolutionise the process of drug discovery.’ Our Bureau Bangalore, Oct 12 Philips Electronics India Ltd will showcase a pre-clinical stage drug discovery tool, `Imalytics workspace’, among other products during its two-day Innovation Day here next week. Imalytics, a solution for imaging analytics, has been fully engineered at the Philips Innovation Campus, Bangalore. It will find applications in drug discovery research related to oncology, cardiology and neurology, a release said. Recently introduced in Europe, it has been designed for pharmaceutical companies, research institutions and life-science laboratories to conduct preclinical trials. According to Mr S. Bhaskaran, Senior Director, Philips Medical Systems, “The preclinical workflow is a breakthrough solution and is a powerful engine that will enable researchers to revolutionise the process of drug discovery.” Developed by a 20-member team at the Bangalore facility in record 18 months, the solution will reduce time-to market cycles and accelerate the development of new compounds and technologies key to future predictive, preventive and personalised medicine, he said. Innovation Day 2007, to be held at the Philips Innovation Campus on October 15 and 16, recognises the ideas incubated at the campus and which can lead to innovative concepts and products across various markets. It will be an opportunity for students to work with the Philips centre. Mr Alexius Collette, CEO of the 950-strong Philips Innovation Campus, Philips Electronics India Ltd, said, “Innovation is at the heart of all our offerings. Over the years, Philips has come up with several products and initiatives to improve the lives of the masses.” Dr Srinivas Gutta, Senior Director, Philips Research India, said Innovation Day would witness some of the most novel ideas in consumer lifestyle, healthcare and lighting that are viable for business applications. From a share of 8 per cent of the total software resource of Philips in 1998, PIC’s share has gone up significantly to around 20 per cent.
