ONGC-Mehsana Asset programme for girl child welfare

Our Bureau

Ahmedabad, Oct 12 In its drive to ensure socio-economic development in the villages in and around the operational areas of the company, the ONGC-Mehsana Asset has joined hands with the district administration to strengthen educational infrastructure as well as the campaigns against the social curses such as female foeticide prevalent in North Gujarat.

Incidentally, this north Gujarat district of Mehsana is faced with an acute crisis in abrupt male-female ratio allegedly owing to large-scale incidence of female foeticide over the last many years, according to an ONGC spokesman.

Some leading NGOs such as Nehru Yuva Kendra, have embarked on large-scale campaigns against the trend in the recent past taking ONGC-Mehsana Asset as a partner.

Mr A.K. Gupta, Executive Director of the Mehsana Asset, said these campaigns will not only embolden the women to face this challenge but also educate the people at large for the necessary corrections. The Asset has recently shelled out Rs 2.50 lakh to the district administration for such campaigns after the launch of a Betee Bachao Abhiyan (Save Girl Child Campaign) in association with ONGC-Mehsana and some NGOs.

As part of its efforts for mass education in the hinterland, under the Corporate Citizen Policy, the Asset also donated Rs 2.50 lakh to the district administration to revive 50 libraries located in the rural areas of Mehsana district.
