Hyderabad, Oct. 15 Carbon Products Hi-tech Technologies Ltd has partnered with Energy Conversion Systems (ECS) to set up a manufacturing base for carbon brushes for electrical appliances, near Hyderabad.

The new plant, which is set to go commercial shortly, has been set up to manufacture carbon brushes and related products to cater to the automotive, industrial applications and electronic companies.

Promoted by the Kolkata-based Goenka family and their associates based in Hyderabad, the joint venture has 51 per cent equity from Carbon Products and 49 per cent from ECS, a $200-million carbon products company.

The Managing Director of Carbon Products, Mr P.C. Goenka, said that the market for carbon products in electric motors, starters and specialised applications is poised for rapid growth and the manufacturing base is aimed at catering to that market which requires customisation.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday to announce the joint venture with ECS, Mr Goenka said that the company was in parleys with some of the original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and expected immense potential for applications in starters and electrical appliances.

Most of the two-wheelers are now being rolled out with starters and the carbon products are aimed at addressing this market.

The company’s manufacturing facility and R&D centre located near Hyderabad will offer 25 grades from its portfolio, including lead-free grades to suite specialised applications. The facility has the flexibility to custom develop products for other applications.

The company has invested about Rs 6.5 crore in the new plant and is targeting revenues of Rs 20 crore.

The CEO of ECS, Mr Gary W. Riley, in a statement said India is becoming a major market for technology solutions and this move underlines ECS commitment to support customers globally and in India.

The alliance will help Carbon Products access latest global products and technology.
