Education States - Maharashtra Indira Group to buy 20 schools across India Our Bureau Pune, Oct. 15 Pune-based Indira Group of Institutes (IGI) is expanding upon its foray into primary, secondary and higher secondary education, and is looking at acquiring over 20 schools across India over the next few years. It is also in advanced stage of discussions to set up an institute for tertiary education in Dubai and Mauritius. In addition, IGI, which will unveil a new wi-fi campus on October 21, has chalked out an aggressive expansion programme that includes adding new disciplines to its current portfolio and launching a publishing house. Elaborating upon their plans, Ms Tarita Mehendale, founder and chairperson, Indira group, said, “By next year, we will have schools in at least five cities such as Indore, Bhopal, Bangalore, Chennai and Mumbai. We want to be present right from pre-primary to tertiary education.” The group has 10 institutes including an engineering college, a secondary school on the CBSE pattern and a pre-primary school. It has filed an application for deemed university status that is being processed. In its first partnership outside Pune, the IGI has tied-up with Vishweshwar Education Society to set up a management college, affiliated to the Mumbai University, at Navi Mumbai. It will offer an MBA programme from the next academic session. A college of hotel management and catering technology is due to be launched at Pune next year. On October 21, the Indira Universe Campus, a new five-acre campus housing its School of Business Studies, College of Pharmacy, College of Commerce and Science and a hostel for over 200 students will be inaugurated by the Union Agriculture Minister, Mr Sharad Pawar. Jackpot, a book by Ms Sarita Mehendale that will mark the debut of the Indira Publishing House, will also be released on the occasion. More Stories on : Education | Maharashtra
