Our Bureau
Hyderabad, Oct. 18 The Andhra Pradesh Government is planning to extend SETWIN services to the districts to improve self-employment opportunities in rural areas.
The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has asked the officials of Youth Services Department to prepare a concrete programme to extend the services to rural areas under the Rajiv Yuva Shakthi programme at a review meeting here on Thursday.
The SETWIN services, which are currently providing city-bus services in Hyderabad successfully, could be replicated in rural areas with needed improvements to reduce traffic congestion and improve employment opportunities, he observed.
The Chief Minister had also indicated his in-principle approval to extend the ‘Pavala Vaddi’ scheme to the Rajiv Yuva Shakthi groups throughout the State.
The Youth Services Department had been allocated Rs 70 crore during 2007-08 for implementation of various programmes such as Rajiv Yuva Shakthi, skill development, youth welfare activities, youth hostels, etc. It has a target of providing training to 40,825 youth in the current year with a budget of Rs 12 crore, the release added.
