S’pore trade plans Chennai office

New Delhi, Oct 18

The Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) is looking to set up an office in Chennai in the first half of next year to facilitate Indian companies to tap the opportunities in the East via Singapore. “We want to be a platform for Indian companies looking to expand to the East,” said Mr Richard Tan, Regional Director, India, EDB. The Chennai office would be EDB’s second office in the country. The first office of EDB, a Government agency under the Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry, was set up in Mumbai in 2004. Currently, about 2,800 Indian companies are incorporated and functioning out of Singapore.
