New Projects Industry & Economy - Infrastructure States - Andhra Pradesh AP to expedite Fab City, MLR Motors projects Our Bureau Hyderabad, Oct. 19 The Andhra Pradesh Minister for Major Industries, Sugar, Commerce and Export Promotion, Ms J. Geeta Reddy, has directed the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation Ltd (APIIC) to expedite support to infrastructure for the Fab City project coming up near Hyderabad. In a statement issued here after review of major projects of Fab City and MLR Motors automotive manufacturing plant, the Minister said that Fab City promoters, SemIndia, requested for dedicated infrastructure covering power, water and sewerage lines. Based on their requests, APIIC has been directed to take up infrastructure works in keeping with the progress of the project. Project statusProviding status of the project, the Minister said that the conceptual design for SemIndia was completed by CH2M Hill, Portland, US along with geotechnical investigations. While the building for the project would be ready by March 2008, the machinery for SemIndia phase one would be installed by September 2008 and the Wafer Fab project is scheduled to be completed by 2009 end. Referring to the MLR Motors project, Ms Reddy said that the Government has allotted 225 acres at Muppireddypalli, Toopran in Medak district near Hyderabad, for the manufacture of passenger cars, a light truck and a three wheeler. The Managing Director of MLR Motors, Mr Lokeswar Rao, has assured the Government that the construction works for the project would be completed within six months. Steps have been initiated to achieve ‘financial closure’ for the project and works have started for vehicle engineering, engine design and plant engineering.
