Rice-based ethanol plant planned
Our Bureau
Hyderabad, Oct. 26 Giving a boost to the ethanol production base, Bio Ethanol India Limited, a city-based company, has announced a Rs 50-crore project in West Godavari district.
The 60-kilo litre a day (kld) capacity plant would start production towards the end of next year.
The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, laid the foundation stone at Annadevarapeta on Thursday. The project uses a technology that could produce ethanol using rice, broken rice and dampened rice.
Paddy procurement
“We will procure paddy from the farmers by paying minimum support price. We will use broken and damp rice for ethanol production. The husk would be used for generating power, while the brawn for making brawn oil,” Mr A. Veerabhadra Rao, Executive Director, said.
“The plant would leave no effluents. In fact, the evaporation and drying process would help a nutrient-rich solid that could be used as poultry feed,” he said.
The integrated project could consume at least 10 per cent of the paddy grown in East and West Godavari.
