Ocean India starts work on Brandix apparel park unit

Likely to go on stream in Q2 of next fiscal

Visakhapatnam, Oct. 28 Ocean India had laid the foundation stone for the construction of its modern knit fabric manufacturing unit at Brandix India Apparel City (BIAC) in Visakhapatnam district, according to a press release issued here on Saturday.

Mr Lawrence Lau, the Managing Director of the parent company Ocean Lanka Ltd, along with others, attended the ceremony.

‘A milestone’

“The event marks another milestone in the progress of Brandix India Apparel City, as this becomes the second unit to commence construction. Already, construction is in full swing for Brandix Apparel India, the modern apparel manufacturing unit. Also, global players in the industry such as Pioneer Elastics, Compagnie Mauricienne de Textile Ltee (CMT), Brandix Finishing and Logiwiz India are due to commence construction shortly,” says the release.

Joint venture

Ocean India is a joint venture between Fountain Set (Holdings) Ltd (Hong Kong), one of the world’s largest knit fabric manufacturers, Brandix Lanka and Hirdramani Group. Fountain Set (Holdings) is supplying to over 40 countries internationally renowned brands and has long been a driving force in the global market through its vertically integrated operations.

‘Largest park’

The 75-acre facility, situated within the 1000-acre Brandix apparel park in a special economic zone in Visakhapatnam district, is projected to be one of the largest textile manufacturing units in the region.

The unit is expected to be ready for commercial production by the second quarter of 2008, adds the release.
