Vinson Kurian Thiruvananthapuram, Oct. 28 Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) does not condemn an aspirant ‘lateral’ just because he or she has changed two or three jobs, according to Mr S. Ramadorai, CEO. Speaking to Business Line here, he also scotched fears that recruiting laterals with ‘some history’ will get adversely reflected in the attrition level. “When a lateral comes for hire, we ask him or her some key questions. Why did he or she change the job? Was it a habit switching jobs every two or three years?” Selection processThere can be really serious reasons why a person has changed jobs more than once. It is a usual practice for the company to check references and probe antecedents. The selection process includes meeting, even multiple meetings, with key people in the organisation. “We then reach a consensus decision on whether the person fits with our scheme of things. It could be just that the challenges that he or she is looking for in the present engagement are inadequate...so he or she would like to join us…” Huge demandMr Ramadorai said his organisation was too busy to get bogged down by demands for invoking the right to form unions. “There is a huge latent demand for professionals in the industry. What the young people want is good environment to work and learn, plus a decent living in the city of choice. According to Mr Ramadorai, no other industry has cared to look after employee aspirations as proactively.
