Toonz Group looks to open animation schools abroad

Thiruvananthapuram, Nov. 2 The Toonz Group, which operates ‘Toonz animation academies’ across the country, is looking at starting animation training schools in China, Sri Lanka, Thailand and other parts of Asia.

Speaking at the eighth anniversary celebrations of the city-based Toonz Animation India Pvt Ltd, Mr P. Jayakumar, CEO, Toonz Group, said that three agreements for setting up animation academies have been entered into with Chinese universities including Beijing University. “We hope to have 10-15 animation training centres in China very soon,” he added.

Over the past few months, the Asian Institute of Film and Media Studies, the Toonz Group company that runs the animation academies, has opened seven animation schools across India. Three more of the company’s animation schools will soon open in the country, he added.

Meanwhile, Toonz Animation India is preparing for the release of its animated feature film Hanuman Returns, Mr Jayakumar said. The film is scheduled to be released on December 28 this year. Toonz Animation has also bagged several projects from major international film companies including Sony Pictures Entertainment, Warner Brothers and Lionsgate. A few months ago, a new company Toonz Entertainment had been set up in Singapore as the holding company for all media-related ventures of the Toonz Group, he explained.
