Chennai, Nov. 3

Hyundai Motor India Ltd will continue to sell Santro in Mexico under Chrysler’s Dodge badge as the Dodge Atos.

The Managing Director, Mr H.S. Lheem, told presspersons here at the launch of Hyundai’s compact car, i10, that talks were on to continue the relationship with Chrysler in Mexico, where Hyundai’s cars are sold under the Dodge brand.

Since mid-2004, Hyundai Santro cars are sold in Mexico as the Dodge Atos and the agreement runs up to August 2008. Discussions are on about continuing the relationship and a final decision is expected by the year-end. With the launch of the i10, the agreement would be extended to cover the new compact also, Mr Lheem said.

Hyundai expects a significant growth in exports in 2008 when it would export to over 75 countries. It plans to sell over 5.3 lakh units next year with 50 per cent sales in the export market. Hyundai hopes to conclude this year with sales of about 3.24 lakh and exports of about 1.1 lakh units.

On the export market, he said that the i10 would make its European debut on December 6 at the Bologna fair. Of the 5.35 lakh cars it hopes to sell next year, at least about 40 per cent would be i10 with the Santro making up about 20-25 per cent
