Good demand pushes up Kochi tea

A good general demand resulted in the spurting of prices of almost all varieties at the Kochi tea auction.

Of the quantity of 10 lakh kg on offer in the dust category, best and high priced CTCs were steady to firm. Good medium CTCs were firm to dearer by Rs1-2. Others were barely steady. Highgrown orthodox dusts were dearer, while medium orthodox dust remained steady. The best CTC varieties commanded prices between Rs 65 and Rs 75, medium CTC realised Rs 52-60 and below medium were quoted at Rs 33-40. Highgrown BOPD fetched prices at Rs 104, while medium BOPD realised prices between Rs 40 and 45. Secondaries were quoted at Rs 30-32.

Leaf sale

The leaf sale also witnessed a good general demand and the quantity on offer was 3.35 lakh kg. Highgrown best quality orthodox bolder brokens and fannings were dearer. Other highgrowns barely steady to easier. Medium orthodox easier by Rs 2-3. Highpriced CTCs were barely steady. Mediums good quality CTCs were steady to dearer, while other CTCs were easier.

Exporters lent good support on highgrown orthodox. They were, however, selective on medium orthodox teas. There was support enquiry on CTC leaf grades.

The best Nilgiri varieties commanded prices between Rs 85 and 97, medium orthodox realised Rs 42-70 and plain orthodox realised Rs 38-40. Best CTC leaf fetched prices between Rs 50 and 60 and medium CTC leaf realised Rs 42-47. In the dust category, Koadanad Cl.BOPD fetched the best prices of Rs 104, followed by Pasuparai SFD by Rs 85. In the leaf varieties, Chamraj FOP realised the best prices of Rs 119 followed by Chamraj OP Rs 115.
