The Hindu Business Line : Coonoor tea prices up on low offer

Prices increased on an average Rs 3 a kg at sale No: 44 of the Coonoor Tea Trade Association (CTTA) held here on Friday and was competitive to absorb the low volume on offer. The volume of 11.53 lakh kg offered was the lowest of the last six weeks.

Leaf category

“In the leaf counter, whole leaf orthodox teas fetched up to Rs 5 a kg more.

Leafy brokens were dearer by Rs 3-4.

Clean BOPFs sold dearer. Even the flaky sorts managed to be steady.

Smaller brokens and fannings among the CTC leaf teas got Rs 2 a kg more.

Medium and bolder ones fetched Rs 1-2 more. In the dust brighter liquoring teas got Rs 2-4 a kg more.

Medium liquoring sorts were dearer by Rs 4. Plainer teas got Rs 2 more”, an auctioneer told Business Line.

Among the CTC teas from bought-leaf sector, Darmona Estate got the highest price of Rs 99 a kg. Vigneshwar Estate got Rs 95 for its RD teas sold by Contemporary Tea Auctioneers which is the highest price fetched by this factory so far in Coonoor auctions.

Vinayaka Tea Co bought it. Homedale Estate got Rs 87 and Highfield Estate Special, Rs 78.

Orthodox

Among the orthodox teas from corporate sector, Tiger Hill clonal got Rs 118 a kg, Mailoor Rs 115, Chamraj Rs 114, Corsley Rs 113, Kairbetta Rs 112, Prammas Rs 105 and Havukal Rs 102.

Quotations held by the brokers indicated bids ranging from Rs 30-to 31 a kg for plain leaf grades and Rs 55-to 67 for the brighter liquoring sorts.

They ranged Rs 32-to 35 a kg for the plain dust grades and Rs 60-to 80 for the brighter liquoring teas.
