For welfare schemes: A worker plucking tea leaves at a plantation near Meppady in Kerala’s Wayanad district. An official committee on tea sector has suggested imposition of additional excise duty of Re 1 a kg on packet tea for subsidising welfare schemes for estate workers. The duty will be levied only on tea that is not exported and it is expected to yield Rs 30-35 crore a year. –
