GAIL seeks LNG from Nigeria

Our Bureau

New Delhi, Nov 6 GAIL (India) Ltd is looking at sourcing liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Nigeria and also acquiring equity stakes in LNG projects in that country.

“We are interested in sourcing LNG from Nigeria and will be interested in taking stake in future LNG manufacturing plants in that country,” the GAIL Chairman and Managing Director, Mr U.D. Choubey, said.

Exploring tie ups

Mr Choubey was speaking to newspersons after meeting the visiting Nigerian Vice- President, Mr Jonathan Goodluck, here. “We are exploring areas of mutual co-operation in hydrocarbons with Nigeria,” he said. The state-owned gas marketing and transmission major is scouting for LNG for the Dhabol Power Plant in Maharashtra and to meet the gas deficit in the country.

“These are preliminary discussions and nothing has been finalised as yet. The Nigerian Vice-President has invited us to visit Lagos for further discussion” he said.

The company also expressed interest in setting up gas gathering station and creating a gas pipeline network in Nigeria. “We also expressed interest in participating in oil and gas fields,” he said.
