Supply Chain Management CWC plans railside warehousing complex in Chennai Our Bureau Chennai, Nov. 6 Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) will construct a railside warehousing complex (RWC) at Korukkupet goods terminal in north Chennai at a cost of Rs 20 crore. This will be the second such complex in Tamil Nadu. The first was constructed at Koodalnagar, Madurai, with a capacity of 12,000 tonnes, and commenced operations in October with the receipt of wheat stocks. An agreement for the Korukkupet goods terminal was signed on Monday between the Chennai Division of Southern Railway and the Chennai Region of the CWC to develop the complex in 16,900 sq m of land. This land will be leased out to the CWC for a period of 30 years, says a press release issued by CWC. Two plots — each comprising 650 metre length and 30 metre width — with two railway lines will be allotted to CWC for construction of 18,000 tonnes capacity of godowns to operate the complex. It is planned to use one godown to handle foodgrain stocks and the other for cement, fertiliser and industrial goods. More Stories on : Supply Chain Management | Railways
