Bangalore, Nov. 13 The Confederation of Indian Industry (Karnataka) has urged the new Chief Minister, Mr B.S. Yeddyurappa, to take immediate steps to expedite projects for smooth transfer to the new Bangalore International Airport.

A delegation led by Mr N. Reguraj, President of CII (Karnataka), called on Mr Yeddyurappa on Tuesday to urge him to take up the project as an ‘one point’ agenda to alleviate the concern of industry and commuters to the airport, about 40 km from the city.

“The CII believes that the issue of BIAL connectivity is one of the critical challenges facing the city, and the CM and the Government assured their full support in not only ensuring the successful implementation of these projects, but also in assisting in addressing any other issues relating to development of Bangalore,” said Mr Reguraj.

Upgrading infrastructure

Sharing information while briefing the media persons on the five-day Excon 2007, the construction equipment and technology exhibition and conference starting here on Wednesday, Mr Reguraj said the Chief Minister assured the delegation that he would convene a meeting soon with the CEOs and CII representatives to discuss, and come out with a short- and long-term measures to solve the airport link problem.

Mr Yeddyurappa also discussed the issues of industrialisation and infrastructure with the CII delegation.

The CII delegation extended full support to the State Government in implementing its industrial policy and all other efforts to attract more global industries into Karnataka.

The delegation suggested to the Chief Minister that upgrading existing infrastructure like road-over-bridges, grade separators, road widening and resurfacing were some of the measures, which could address the connectivity issues in the short term. Mr Reguraj said long term steps like metro link and expressway could be taken up on a time-bound basis, he said.
