Bangalore, Nov. 18

Manipal Health Systems (MHS) said it has launched a comprehensive outreach programme through its Manipal Heart Institute to take heart care to patients across the southern States.

MHS has put together a team of 40 heart specialists. In the first phase, 27 heart emergency centres will be opened soon across Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. The outreach programme will cover patients through cardiac outpatient clinics, telemedicine facilities, heart emergency centres and mobile heart care vans.

Mr R. Basil, Managing Director and CEO of Manipal Health Systems, said, “We have been working in this programme for the last one year. We have gathered together some of the best doctors from India and abroad to offer comprehensive heart care.”

It will also deploy three cardiac screening vans equipped with ECG and echo facilities to travel across the region.

In the next 12 months, the mobile service will cover one lakh people free of charge. The service will be offered initially in Bangalore, Mangalore, Manipal, Vijayawada and Salem, and will soon extend to other cities. A multilingual awareness campaign has also been prepared.
