Rlys earnings up 12% in Apr-Oct

New Delhi, Nov 20 Indian Railways recorded almost 12 per cent growth in total revenues registering Rs 38,454.71 crore for the seven-month period (April-October).

This was due to an over 11 per cent growth in freight earnings (which account for 66 per cent share of total revenues) and 13 per cent growth in passenger revenues (29 per cent of total revenues).

According to an official press release, the total goods earnings have gone up to Rs 25,687.02 crore (April-October) from Rs 23,081.22 crore during April-October 2006, an increase of 11.29 per cent.

The revenue earnings from other coaching and sundry amounted to Rs 1,606.78 crore during April-October 2007 (Rs 1,430.52 crore), an increase of 12.32 per cent.

The total approximate earnings of Indian Railways on originating basis during April 1- October 31, 2007 were Rs 38,454.71 crore (Rs 34347.21 crore), registering an increase of 11.96 per cent, said the release.
