India Infra to get 4th rake from Titagarh Wagons

Mamuni Das

New Delhi, Nov. 22 India Infrastructure Logistics Pvt Ltd (IILPL) is likely to get the delivery of its fourth rake next week and commission the rake on the Loni inland container depot (ICD)-JN port route. Currently, IILPL runs three rakes on Loni ICD-JN Port route.

IILPL is a 76:24 joint venture between Singapore-based shipping line NOL and Rajeev Chandrasekhar-promoted Hindustan Infrastructure Projects and Engineering (HIPE). IILPL has a Category I licence to operate container trains across the country including the national capital region-JN Port sector, for a fee of Rs 50 crore, from the Railway Ministry, for a period of 20 years (extendable by another 10 years).

The container train operation services of IILPL are branded as APL IndiaLinx.

Panipat ICD

The company is also setting up its inland container depot (ICD) in Panipat, which should be operational by 2008-end.

“The Panipat ICD would be set up on 50 acres, with a container handling capacity of up to 2.5-3 lakh twenty feet equivalent units per annum,” Mr Amitabha Chaudhuri, Managing Director, IILPL, told Business Line.

Additionally, the company is considering options to set up ICDs at Ludhiana and Nagpur.

IILPL expects to have a total of nine rakes by April-May 2008.

“We are sourcing all the nine rakes from Titagarh Wagons,” Mr Chaudhuri said adding that IILPL has invested about Rs 270 crore towards procuring the nine rakes and setting up the ICD at Panipat.

All its nine rakes are likely to focus on moving the export-import traffic. “We would focus on the export-import traffic in the short term, though we would also look at the domestic sector at a later stage,” Mr Chaudhuri said.
