New Projects Industry & Economy - Infrastructure Hind Latex to be frontrunner in setting up medical park Our Bureau Thiruvananthapuram, Nov. 24 Hindustan Latex Ltd will play a major role in setting up a ‘medical park’ at Chengalpattu in Tamil Nadu, said the Union Health and Family Welfare Minister, Dr Anbumani Ramadoss. At the inauguration of the company’s new condom manufacturing plant in the city today, he said that the public sector company would take the lead in setting up a ‘vaccine park’ and a ‘medical equipment manufacturing park’ in Chengalpattu. The facility is to be set up on 500 acres of land. The Minister said that the company will also be responsible for setting up diagnostic facilities in CGHS clinics. It will initially implement this scheme in a pilot project in Delhi. Project consultantEmphasising that the Union Government will extend support to Hindustan Latex, Dr Ramadoss pointed out that the company has been appointed as a consultant for several projects being implemented under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana. This includes projects to upgrade facilities at the medical colleges in Bangalore, Thiruvananthapuram and Salem. Earlier, while addressing the gathering, Mr M. Ayyappan, Chairman and Managing Director, HLL, said that the company is venturing into new businesses such as pharmaceuticals and hospitals. It has three ‘LifeSpring Hospitals’ in Hyderabad, Agra and Kanpur and plans more such hospitals. It is also setting up a network of 70 ‘Merrygold Hospitals’ in Uttar Pradesh as part of the Merrygold Health Service Network, a public-private partnership initiative, he added.
