FLAG Telecom enters deal with GlassHouse

To offer remotely managed storage services

Mumbai, Nov. 27 FLAG Telecom Group Ltd has entered into a three-year bilateral agreement with US-based managed IT services provider GlassHouse Technologies to jointly provide remotely managed storage services and develop new storage products. The engagement is being pegged at about $15-20 million, sources in the knowhow said.

Under the agreement, the undersea cable subsidiary of Reliance Communications and GlassHouse will jointly provide services such as remote monitoring, reporting, and management of customer environment, said a company communication.

FLAG will resell GlassHouse’s managed storage services as part of a new suite of hosting services. In addition, FLAG and GlassHouse will jointly develop new storage services complementing the existing services suite.

Moreover, GlassHouse is expanding its Infrastructure Operations Center to include the FLAG campus in India. The centre will be continually staffed by FLAG employees therefore providing significant operating cost reduction, the note added.

“The partnership enables FLAG and GlassHouse to offer a multi-vendor remote storage services suite at the lowest cost of delivery to the enterprise market,” said Mr Punit Garg, Chief Executive Officer of FLAG.

According to research firm Gartner, the global storage services space is estimated to be worth over $30 billion (Rs 1,20,000 crore) by March 2008.

Reliance has over 500 trained technical staff for its network management operations, the note added.

The Reliance Communications scrip was down by 0.49 per cent to close at Rs 687.9 on the BSE today.
