Kochi, Nov. 30

Alappat, one of the leading jewellery retailers, has tied up with globally rated Australian bullion refiner belonging to Perth Mint to import standard gold bars in bulk. Mr Babu Alappat, Chairman and Managing Director of the Group, said importing directly from bullion refiner would have certain advantages over the fluctuations in market as well as quality of the gold.

Perth Mint in Australia is one of the oldest of its kind in the world and their standard is recognised all over the world, he said.

Demand

Australian nuggets made of 999.9 per cent pure gold is in great demand the world over and they are the member of the London Bullion Merchants Association, who are having the control in fixing the London Bullion rates considered as a benchmark for global bullion rates, he added.

For jewellery

Gold bars directly imported will be kept in safe vaults and used for jewellery manufacturing according to the demand, Mr Babu Alappat said. The company has decided to go for direct import to meet the requirements of its new retail showroom coming up in the city.

Direct import will enable the company to provide the customers the most pure gold at highly competitive rates, he said.

The new showroom, to be launched shortly, will have many first to its credit.

He said that it is made after extensive market research on factory influencing jewellery buying at present.

On the basis of the feedback, the company has decided to keep separate counters for different segments of customers.

Bridal section

The bridal section will be named Sumangali, while a daily wear range called 9 to 5 will cater to the needs of new age professionals and others. Kids and newborns jewellery will be under Cutle Pie, the choice of modern campus girls will be kept under ETC, which will be an economic and trendy range.

The showroom will also have a special section for platinum.
