Economy States - Andhra Pradesh No tariff hike by AP power distribution companies Our Bureau Hyderabad, Nov. 30 The four major power distribution companies of Andhra Pradesh have not proposed any tariff hike for any consumer categories for the fiscal 2008-09. This is in tune with the trend in the last four years. The distribution companies have filed their Aggregate Revenue Requirement (ARR) and Filing of Proposed Tariff (FPT) for the fiscal 2008-09 before the Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) on Friday. They argued that if one adjusts for inflation, the tariffs have actually reduced in real terms. For example, the current average tariff for domestic category at Rs 2.35 per KWh has remained constant for the last few years and represents a reduction of 17.5 per cent, a release from the A.P. Transmission Corporation (APTransco) claimed. Setting targetThe utilities have set a target to improve the metered sales by 12.16 per cent through sustained improvements. This would lead to net improvement of Rs 176 crore, while efforts to reduce T&D losses would result in a saving of Rs 134 crore, taking the total to Rs 310 crore. For the ensuing year, the revenue gap in the sector has been projected at Rs 3,976 crore. For the current year, the tariff order of APERC provided a subsidy of Rs 1,048 crore. The State Government has agreed to bear the expenses for purchase of required additional power for the ensuing year by providing additional subsidy, the release added.
