Our Bureau

Pune, Nov 30 Cognizant Foundation, and Swantantrya Veer Sawarkar Educational Trust, a Pune-based NGO, has set up a residential learning centre for rural children. The Centre for Cultivation of Talent, is located at Dabhon village near Dahanu, about 120 km from Mumbai, to cater to Katkari tribal children in the area. Mr. Lakshmi Narayanan, Vice Chairman, Cognizant and Director Cognizant Foundation, said it can accommodate about 155 students from Class 1 to 10.

While children from class one to four will stay and study in the same building, students from classes 8 to10 will stay here and study in nearby schools, he said.

Parents of 75 per cent of the school-going children in this area are migratory labourers. Mr. Pratap Gaikwad, Founder of Swantantrya Veer Sawarkar Educational Trust, said this was one of the eight schools that it had been running around Dahanu for the past four years to prevent the children from dropping out of school.
