Rupee ends flat

Mumbai, Dec. 6

The rupee ended flat at 39.49 against the dollar on Thursday. The currency opened at 39.46/48 and after remaining largely range-bound during the day, it went down at 39.55/56 on dollar buying by a large corporate. It, however, ended the day at 39.49, said foreign exchange dealers. They said it was becoming increasingly difficult to anticipate the direction of the rupee movement. “The rupee is weakening in spite of the gain in domestic stock market which is sending c onfusing signals,” said a dealer at a private bank. In forwards, the six-month premia closed at 1.51 per cent (1.45 per cent) and the 12-month ended at 1.15 per cent (1.11 per cent).
