Agricultural Institutions Industry & Economy - Rural Development States - Kerala Nabard aid for Kerala rural projects Our Bureau Thiruvananthapuram, Dec. 7 The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) has sanctioned Rs 12.39 crore from its Rural Infrastructure Development Fund XIII (RIDF – XIII) to the Kerala Government. The assistance is for implementing eight rural infrastructure projects in the State. One of the projects is construction of a fishing harbour at Thalai in Kannur district involving an RIDF loan of Rs 10.26 crore and being implemented by the Harbour Engineering Department. The project is designed to enable fishing vessels to operate even during rough weather, resulting in considerable increase in the total number fishing days and additional income for the fishermen, according to Mr, Bhawar Puri, Chief General Manager, Nabard. Rural roadsThe Nabard assistance also covers implementation of six fishery rural roads and one bridge involving an RIDF loan of Rs 2.13 crore by the Harbour Engineering Department in Thiruvananthapuarm, Alappuzha and Kasargod districts. The projects will help prevent spoilage of fish-catch resulting in higher income to the fishermen. Mr. Puri said that the eight projects now sanctioned were expected to generate about 3,000 jobs and non-recurring employment of around 1.64 lakh mandays. During the current year, Nabard has sanctioned 243 projects with a total outlay of Rs 138.88 crore, including an RIDF loan of Rs 114.81 crore. Also, the cumulative sanction of assistance to the Kerala Government by Nabard under RIDF I to XIII has now gone up to Rs 1,933.64 crore covering 2,935 projects.
