Awards & Honours Hindustan Newsprint bags energy conservation awards Our Bureau Thiruvananthapuram, Dec. 8 Hindustan Newsprint Ltd, Kottayam, has won the Kerala State energy conservation award for 2007 under the category of large-scale enterprises. The company achieved a saving of Rs 1.12 crore by implementing various energy conservation measures, according to Mr K.M. Dharesan Unnithan, Director, Energy Management Centre. The commendation certificate under the category was shared by NTPC Ltd, Alappuzha; MRF Ltd, Kottayam; Apollo Tyres Ltd, Thrissur; and Le Meridian Resorts and Convention Centre, Kochi. In the medium-scale industries category, the commendation certificate was shared by Hindustan Latex Ltd, Aakulam, and Milma Dairy, Kannur. The Marari Beach Resort, Alappuzha, won the award under the category of small-scale industries. The company claimed the award for introducing novel ways of water harvesting and waste management. Ammini Energy Systems got the commendation certificate popularising solar power plants and energy conserving lights. Biotech won the award under the category of non-profit organisations in the fields of family and institutional biogas plants, waste-to-energy plants and for popularising them.
