Arts & Crafts States - West Bengal Guardian Angel
Clarion Call: The Angel of Victory atop the dome of Kolkata’s Victorial Memorial on a December morning. This bronze statue, 16 feet tall and weighing three tonnes, rotates with the wind. In recent years there has been a problem with the rotation mechanism, but it has been rectified lately. The foundation stone of the Victoria Memorial was laid on January 4, 1906, by the Prince of Wales who later became King George V, when Kolkata (then Calcutta) was the capital city of British India.
