Broadband for Kerala schools

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec. 11

The Kerala Government has issued guidelines for making available broadband Internet facility in high schools in the State. Accordingly, adopted schools and Government schools with a student-strength of below 100 will have to remit Rs 1,000 annually to IT@School Project. The annual fee for aided schools is Rs 4,000. The monthly download limit is 3 GB and above that, the schools will have to pay 80 paise per MB. The payment for broadband facility may be made from PTA fund, laboratory fee or other sources. The students should not be made to pay specially for the purpose, according to an official release. The recognised unaided schools could also avail themselves of the broadband scheme by paying an annual fee of Rs 5,000, the release said. - Our Bureau
