Mobile PC sales up 99.4% in Q3

Mumbai, Dec. 13

Sale of mobile PCs in India grew by 99.4 per cent in the September quarter, according to a research from Gartner Inc. Mobile PC sales grew to about half a million in the third quarter of 2007. Acer leapfrogged to the top three mobile PC brands as its focus on channel partners and large format retail outlets has started to pay off, according to Gartner. “What is worth noting here is that the Tier II and Tier III home segments, which hitherto were almost exclusively bu ying desk based PCs, are now opting for mobile PCs as well,” said Mr Diptarup Chakraborti, principal research analyst for Gartner’s client computing group. Desk based PC shipments registered the fastest growth in the last three quarters. They grew at 7.8 per cent to 1.72 million. Acer registered a 95.4 per cent growth in shipments in the September quarter compared to the year ago quarter. —
