Telecommunications 22 new applicants give more details to DoT Our Bureau New Delhi, Dec. 13 The Department of Telecom is likely to start issuing letters of intent to new applicants starting next week. About 22 out of the 25 companies, which were asked to give more details on their application, submitted necessary clarifications on Thursday. These companies include Parsvnath, Unitech, Datacom, BPL Mobile, HFCL, ByCell and Shyam Telecom. The telecom tribunal on Wednesday paved the way for issuing licence and spectrum to new entrants by refusing to give stay order as pleaded by the Cellular Operators Association of India. Meanwhile, Reliance Communication said that it does not hold the minority stake in Cheetah and Swan, two companies which are among the new applicants for new telecom licence. While more than 40 companies had applied for a new telecom licence, only those companies which fulfil the eligibility criteria have been selected. The defence is likely to release about 25 Mhz of spectrum over the next few months, which can accommodate about six new players. More Stories on : Telecommunications
