FX Labs acquires gaming portal

Hyderabad, Dec. 17 Gaming and animation developer FX Labs Studios on Monday announced the acquisition of gaming portal and aggregator knibble.com for $3 million to be paid in stock.

With this move, the Hyderabad-based FX Labs, promoted by Mr Sashi Reddi of AppLabs and Suresh Productions, has entered into the world of casual games and also expects to roll out its India designed games for the global market.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr Sashi Reddi said: “with the acquisition of knibble.com, we have expanded our capability from being a game developer to a company that will be directly delivering games online globally.”

The founder and Chief Executive Officer of Interactive Media Technology Inc, which hitherto owns knibble.com, Mr Sashi Cheemala, said “knibble now hosts over 10,500 games and with the proposed launch of new games by FX Labs, we could play a very complementary role.”

FX Labs is in the process of rolling out desi games such as Agni and Dhoom II, the latter modelled on the popular Hindi entertainer, and Archies, for the global market place. For the Archie’s Riverdale Run, FX Labs has exclusive gaming rights. This is poised for launch in June 2008. FX Labs has so far invested about $6 million in development of games.

Mr Cheemala said that the growing popularity of gaming can be gauged from the fact that this year’s new word entry in dictionary is likely to be a gaming innovation Woot from the gamers’ language that conveys he has won.
