Chennai box terminal’s milestone

Chennai, Dec. 17

The Chennai container terminal handled a million twenty foot equivalent units (TEUs) in the calendar year 2007. This milestone was achieved after handling 740 vessels in 348 days. Chennai is the second port in India after JNPT to achieve this feat. Mr Ennarasu Karunesan, Director and CEO of DP World, Chennai, in a press release said CCT handled one lakh TEUs in August 2007. The millionth TEU was handled on the vessel CMA CGM Kepler on December 14. This vessel was part of t he NEMO service, one of the seven mainline services calling Chennai.
