Tourism States - Tamil Nadu More tourists from Madurai head to Singapore Our Correspondent Madurai, Dec. 19The flow of tourists to Singapore from Madurai has registered an increase of 25 per cent year-on-year over 2006 and is consistent with the strong growth from other emerging markets such as Tiruchi, Coimbatore, Kochi, and Thiruvananthapuram, according to Mr Kiran Bandari, Area Director-Southern India, Sri Lanka and Maldives, Singapore Tourism Board. Apart from tourism, education is also attracting students from other countries. On an average, there are 80,000 international students, of which roughly 6 per cent come from India, he said while speaking to Business Line here. The uniqueness of Singapore lies in its attraction as a family destination offering fun and an enriching experience to all who visit the city-state. The city keeps the lure by reinventing itself with new projects. It is getting ready to hold the inaugural of F1 Singapore Grand Prix during September 2008 on a street circuit of public roads around the Marina bay area. It will be Asia’s first night-race. An integrated resort planned for 2009 will include a one-hectare sky park, an art and science museum, two theatres with seating capacity of 2,000 each, a floating restaurant, and 1 million sq ft of retail space.
