Actor Nagarjuna to focus on entertainment biz

K.V. Kurmanath

Hyderabad, Dec. 19 For many Akkineni Nagarjuna is a film hero, with a career spanning 20 years in Telugu, Hindi and Tamil (dubbed) films. But, perhaps only a few know that he is a wannabe entrepreneur.

He has big plans for the entertainment industry. Already a producer making films under the family-owned Annapurna Studios banner and an investor in Maa TV, Mr Nagarjuna has now set his eyes on expanding the horizon of his business.

“I will focus on areas which I know best.” he said, indicating that he would restrain himself to the entertainment business.

“We are planning to start two channels for news and music,” he told Business Line. He is shooting for the film being directed by Mr P Vasu. Don, another film directed by choreographer Mr Lawrence, is slated for release on December 20.

Mr Nagarjuna, along with a few friends, own majority stake in Maa TV. The channel had been contemplating to start a news channel for quite some time.

One of the top heroes in Telugu, he is also looking at entertainment content business.

“We are looking at developing TV content in a big way. We started off with the TV serial Yuva in Maa. We would like to expand this activity further.”

The second son of thespian Akkineni Nageshwara Rao, or ANR as he is popularly known, Nagarjuna has big plans for Annapurna Studios too.

The studio would be developed to tap a variety of opportunities unfolding in the entertainment industry.

Asked how he could focus on his entrepreneurial aspirations considering his busy film career, he said: “I work for 15 days a month for films,” indicating that he had got enough time to spare on his business plans.
