M-Commerce Ericsson offers mobile payment gateway to 8 operators Our Bureau New Delhi, Dec. 19 Swedish telecom gear manufacturer Ericsson has announced that it will provide its global Internet Payment Exchange (IPX) payment and messaging service to eight mobile operators across India. This is aimed at providing a secure payment gateway for mobile commerce activities ranging from ringtone downloads to online value added services. Ericsson’s IPX facilitates the payment and distribution of mobile content while seamlessly interconnecting content providers and mobile operators. IPX handles the payments by making use of the existing billing relationship between operators and consumers. The eight operators, which will be connected to the Ericsson’s payment exchange, are Bharti Airtel, Reliance Communications, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd, Vodafone Essar, Aircel, MTNL Delhi, Tata Teleservices and Idea Cellular. Ericsson will get to keep a fee for every transaction completed using its gateway. Mr Mats Granryd, Managing Director, Ericsson India, said: “We are happy that these networks have added Ericsson IPX services to their offering and will be joining Ericsson’s global network of IPX-enabled mobile operators.” Using Ericsson IPX, mobile subscribers in India will now be able to securely purchase mobile multimedia content such as music, games, wallpapers and ringtones from mobile content companies. “Payment will be handled in a safe and seamless process between mobile phone user, content provider and network operator and will provide mobile phone users with a high level of payment assurance. Globally, IPX customers include TV channels and broadcast media, newspapers, and content and application providers,” said a press release. More Stories on : M-Commerce | Telecommunications
