IBM inks 5-year deal with Sankara Nethralaya

Chennai, Dec. 20

IBM has formally signed a five-year deal with Sankara Nethralaya to implement an integrated IT management solution on the lines of software as a service.

Called Network Operations Center-Inside (NOC-I), the subscription-based offering consists of modules such as automated IT monitoring, IT inventory management, service desk operations and IT traffic analysis.

The software also generates daily reports based on tracking the entire hardware and software inventory in an organisation.

This will facilitate real time measurement of IT service performance and generate alerts when corrective actions are required.

The software is vendor neutral and provides free upgrades, unlimited email and telephone support, Mr Praveen Cherian, Chief Executive Officer, Network Solutions Pvt Ltd (an IBM company), said at a press conference today.

When asked to disclose the deal size, officials from both companies declined to do so. It is understood that a three-year NOC-I subscription for 100 desktops and 5 servers amounts to $17,000 (about Rs 6.8 lakh).

Sankara Nethralaya has 700 computer systems across Chennai, Bangalore and Kolkata.

The company first implemented NOC-I in May and have seen cost savings of 60 per cent until now, Mr T.Rathinam, Director-IT, Sankara Nethralaya, told Business Line. “We plan to explore opportunities like facility management and maintenance with IBM in future,” he said.
