Saroj Bala becomes CBDT member

New Delhi, Dec 20

The Government has appointed Ms Saroj Bala as a member in the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). Prior to this appointment, Ms Bala was the Director General of National Academy of Direct Taxes at Nagpur, official sources said. With this appointment, the CBDT is now in full strength with six members and a Chairman. Meanwhile, sources said that the Finance Ministry has embarked on the process of empanelling members of CBDT to fill in some posts that are likely to fall vacant during financial year 2008-09. It has invited applications for this purpose from chief commissioners of income tax/director general of income tax and members of the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT), sources added. - Our Bureau
