Turmeric near upper circuit

Mumbai, Dec. 21 The withdrawal of additional margins on Friday boosted interest in agriculture commodity futures trading in NCDEX.

Turmeric and sugar February contract were close to hitting the upper circuit. Turmeric for April delivery touched a high of Rs 2,813 per quintal while its upper circuit was Rs 2,832. It closed with a gain of 3 per cent at Rs 2,806 per quintal.

Change in contract specification and demand for export sops by sugar association, pushed February contract to a high of 3.3 per cent to Rs 1,354 per quintal, however, it could not hit the upper circuit at Rs 1,357.

Sugar gains

Sugar for January delivery closed with a gain of 2.3 per cent at Rs 1,333 per quintal.

Soyabean was up 1.34 per cent to Rs 1,961 per quintal on the back of strong international market. Removal of margins pushed up jeera futures by 1.20 per cent to Rs 10,460 per quintal.

On MCX, metha was down 1.69 pr cent to Rs 442 to expectation of higher production and lower demand.

MCX recorded a turnover of Rs 3075 crore up to 5 pm, while it was Rs 2,905 crore in NCDEX.
