Infrastructure States - Kerala Low utilisation of funds under externally-aided projects Mony K. Mathew Thiruvananthapuram, Dec. 21 The expenditure of funds for externally-aided projects in Kerala in 2006-07 was just 30 per cent of the total outlay. According to the estimates available, the total outlay for the projects for the year was at Rs 1,865.52 crore, while the actual expenditure worked out to only Rs 553.43 crore. The list of the funding agencies comprised Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), World Bank and Asian Development Bank (ADB). Break-upAt the bottom of the expenditure list is Kerala Sustainable Urban Development Project being funded by ADB to the tune of Rs 140.36 crore. The expenditure was Rs 6.58 crore or five per cent of the outlay. The highest utilisation of funds was for quality improvement programme in technical education with the assistance of the World Bank. The expenditure under the head was Rs 20.12 crore, representing 67 per cent of the outlay of Rs 30 crore. The integrated and sustainable eco-development of Attappadi, aided by JBIC, incurred an expenditure of Rs 23.02 crore against an outlay of Rs 50 crore with the percentage of utilisation at 46 per cent. Water supply projectThe World Bank-assisted rural water supply and sanitation projects used up Rs 41.86 crore out of Rs 114.33 crore, the achievement being 37 per cent. The National Hydrology Project under minor irrigation category showed an expenditure of Rs 53.31 crore, which was 15 per cent of the outlay of Rs 3.50 crore funded by the World Bank. The JBIC-aided water supply project utilised Rs 184.57 crore, which represented 28 per cent of the total funding of Rs 650 crore. More Stories on : Infrastructure | Kerala
