Sports Industry & Economy - Water States - Tamil Nadu ‘Madurai marathon’ on Jan 13 Our Correspondent Madurai, Dec. 21Madurai-based DHAN (Development for Human Action), an NGO, will on January 13 hold the second edition of Madurai Marathon to sensitise the public on the importance of heritage water resources. The inaugural edition, called ‘Run for Water’, was held in January this year. According to Mr P. Vasimalai, Executive Director, a water literacy programme is being drawn under which about 500 volunteers will be trained to impart programmes in schools and colleges focussing on the importance of conserving water.A resource book with particular reference to Madurai will be published. The marathon events include half-marathon (21 km), mini-marathon (8 km), walk for a cause (5 km), walk for differently-abled (3 km), and roller-skating (8 km). The marathon would pass through important heritage water bodies in the Corporation limits. Participants would start and conclude the run at Madurai Medical College grounds, Mr Vasimalai said.
